“Spite”…thy name is McCain?

It’s not a widely reported story. Nor is it of great moment against the background of the many large and serious stories breaking almost by the hour.

We believe, however, that it deals with a subject of very recent massive press coverage.

The Wall Street Journal on Friday included the story as a minor note on page A4, in its “Campaign Wire”:

Headlined “McCain’s Family Objects to GOP Ads”.

According to the story, John McCain’s family is criticizing House Republicans for using video of the late senator in ads, so soon after his passing and without the family’s permission.

In Arizona, the GOP is reusing a 2016 campaign commercial. In Michigan, an ad shows McCain criticizing a former Obama administration official who is challenging GOP Rep Mike Bishop.

According to the Journal report, however, the McCain family is not objecting to the use of the late senator’s image in ads by a Democrat who is challenging GOP Rep Leonard Lance in New Jersey (The story noted that the Democrat obtained the family’s permission.)

A McCain family spokeswoman issued this statement: “The…family believes it’s unfortunate that the senator’s image is being weaponized this election season.”

Well, isn’t that special?

Apparently it’s OK to “weaponize” the senator’s image by a Democrat, but not by Republicans. (And may we wonder how those past GOP campaign ads or videos of the McCain image were paid for…with funds raised from GOP voters? So when did they become the ‘private property’ of the “McCain family” and his party must get their permission to reuse them?

Yes, it appears that the family continues the proud John McCain tradition…to get hurrahs from liberal media, stab in the back the people of your own party who put the late senator in office… “reach across the aisle” to show your displeasure toward a fellow Republican if he defeated you regardless of his success in implementing policies you seemed to support in your campaigns…betray your supporters if it offers the chance for ‘payback’.

It is difficult to conjure more spitefulness than the late senator and his family exhibited as they dropped from the funeral invitation list former campaign aides, even his VP running mate, and the president of the United States. And, obviously, the tradition continues!

RIP Senator McCain; Long Live The Establishment!      DLH
