More about what McConnell /GOP must do

DLH holds forth on what McConnell /GOP must do

I agree that that the notion that a vacancy on the Court at time of the mid-terms as a means of enhancing GOP’s chances of having greater senate representation in the next congress is absurd.

I also agree that having filled the position with a true conservative before mid-terms is very likely to have a devastatingly negative effect on Democratic voter turnout.
Mitch must get’er done before November. This one win or loss will be forever McConnell’s “legacy”.

However, this is likely to be the toughest test Mitch has ever faced in his long time in politics.

The pro-abortion, anti-Trump, anti-conservative, treacherous little “nominal Republican Senator”, Susan Collins is a virtual certain “No” vote for almost any potential Trump nominee. WaPo’s “phony conservative” columnist Jennifer Rubin urges L L Bean, major Maine employer, to pressure Ms. Collins to reject any nominee put forth by the president…as though Collins needs any urging to do so.

Rubin, in her column in the Post, urges the ‘svelte sexpot’, Michael Moore, to take his “million protesters” to Maine rather than “circle the capitol” in DC with them. (I have a suggestion for a more appropriate place he could take them)

“…go to L.L. Bean and tell them in Maine, ‘You need to leave Maine’ unless Susan Collins votes the right way,” Rubin advises.

With “Republicans” like Susan Collins, confirmation of whomever Trump nominates for the Court is no certainty.

What is a certainty, however, is if a nominee is not advanced and voted on before the mid-term, the GOP will certainly lose its majority in the Senate and probably the House as well.

The Republicans need to convince the electorate that the fight to confirm another conservative to the Supreme Court will be fierce.

Susan Collins aside, how much leverage McConnell can have over departing GOP senators Corker and Flake is questionable.

Both, in the past, have shown little inclination to support Trump, keep their campaign promises, or effectively serve the interests of America on the world stage.

Time, and the effectiveness of the GOP to make its case, will tell.       DLH
