On gun crime — more culpability from the usual suspects

  • Obama et al put guns in the hands of criminals

This article at The Daily Caller relates that the Obama administration saw to the removal of 500, 000 criminals from the background check data base used to determine eligibility for gun purchases.

Obama DOJ Forced FBI To Delete 500,000 Fugitives From Background Check Database

Reading it with a little appreciation for the desire not to federalize everything and the tradition that the FBI is only charged with pursuing state violations (with exceptions) when a fugitive from justice crosses state lines — one might think the action was appropriate.

But then remember that the data base need not be the same as a federal “he’s wanted go out and look for them” list obligating the FBI . Crime reporting to the federal government is a general requirement of local and state agencies,  why is keeping the information on record pending adjudication not something the feds see a proper value in if the original report is considered important?  That would be point one.

Point two – a separate arrest in another jurisdiction could identify the person as wanted elsewhere implicating flight to avoid prosecution and be actionable,  so the Obama administration was up to something. We suspect ease in massaging statistics and perhaps lessening arrests of “overly prosecuted” elements and perhaps avoiding immigration deportation.

And three — the data base is mandated to be used in order to check gun purchase eligibility.  The feds by this action of reducing the wanted list have allowed criminals to more easily purchase firearms.  Sure the applicants statement on the form is that they are not wanted, but keep in mind we are talking criminals after all and verification was possibly prevented. So yes, Obama et al put guns in the hands of criminals.
