Parody is Impossible

theaterParody is impossible today. Read this editorial from the Las Vegas Review Journal and tell me that any of the most outlandish, ridiculous, outrageous, illegal or unconstitutional acts by this government must be satire and can’t possibly be true. The Onion may have to go out of business.

The IRS and ‘suspicious activity’   Las Vegas Review-Journal editorial, June 20, 2014

Speaking of IRS arrogance, a pair of agents proved agency overreach extends all the way to Las Vegas.  . . . According to a person present, the men then delivered to lawyers, gaming executives and regulators a heavy-handed presentation regarding the kinds of “suspicious activities” casinos are obligated to report. Among them: any customer who expresses distrust of the government.

How would Americans develop a distrust of government? Could a certain corrupt tax collection agency that engages in political retribution have anything to do with that? . . .

White House imposes penalties on Uganda after anti-gay law

Miami Herald, by Anita Kumar    6/20/2014 8:43:12 AM

The White House announced Thursday that it will impose further penalties against Uganda after its president signed a law that toughens punishments against gays and defines some homosexual acts as crimes punishable by life in prison. The admnistration will prevent Ugandan officials involved in serious human rights abuses, including against LGBT individuals, into the United States; discontinue or redirect money for certain programs involving the Ugandan Police Force, Ministry of Health and National Public Health Institute; and cancel plans to hold a U.S. military-sponsored aviation exercise in Uganda

And this is the president who deplored the US attempting to impose its will on other sovereign nations.  We will await his condemnation of Islam for preaching such hate.

The Redskins Ruling’s Slippery Slope

(This is illustrative of how crazy it’s getting)

I am extremely offended by the names of certain sports teams due to the slurs they cast on certain religions and the way they promote certain  brands of products which promote promiscuity and disease, and create a false sense of security when in fact the product poses a potential threat to public safety.

I urge President Obama to take time out from his busy schedule to direct  sportswriters and his many other friends in the media to step up to this issue and pressure the NCAA to take action.

The university of Southern California must do the right thing and drop the Trojan name from its sports teams. To promote condoms is a crime against society in that they provide a false sense of security and are acknowledged to be ineffective in preventing the greatest threat (HIV, AIDS) to some of our greatest Americans, our gay friends.

Stanford University must be made to stop slurring high ranking officials of the Catholic Church. They must stop using the name “Cardinals”. Of course they try to cleverly disguise their intended target by using a bird as the symbol. They are fooling no one.

And of course pro sports continues to  offend…the St. Louis CARDINALS!!

That’s it!It’s all over for Barack. Boehner has spoken
John Boehner: President Obama’s  ‘wheels are coming off’
Washington Times (D.C), by Cheryl K. Chumley   6/20/2014

Speaker John Boehner blasted the White House over a range of issues — from Iraq to the blooming scandals with Veterans Affairs and the Internal Revenue Service — saying the perception of a casual observer might be that the president doesn’t really have a clue. “You look at this presidency, and you can’t help but get the sense that the wheels are coming off,” Mr. Boehner said, The Hill reported. Mr. Boehner also pointed to Mr. Obama’s overseas policy as a particular failure — a view that seems to be shared by most of America, given recent poll numbers finding…..

I didn’t see the video of this but I have seen the hyper-dynamic Speaker of the House deliver other eloquent, sharp-tongued, devastating critiques. Always choosing the right pitch, when John Boehner calls you out, even his friends quake at the power of this man’s words. zzzzzzzzzzzzz, wake me when he’s done

Putin doesn’t have to worry about US energy independence. He’s got his “more flexible” buddy working for him.

Putin has spy plot to halt fracking in UK, warns Nato chief: ‘Agents are working with green campaigners to make sure Europe still has to rely on Russian energy’

Britain has vast reserves of shale gas trapped in rocks thousands of feet underground that may be extracted by firing water and chemicals to fracture the rock.
Scientists say we are sitting on deposits of enough shale gas to supply the whole country for at least 40 years, mirroring the North Sea oil boom of the 1970s.
But shale gas development has not yet taken off here, unlike in countries such as the US where it has proved highly popular.

Opponents in the UK have warned that the process risks causing earthquakes, polluting water, blighting the countryside and affecting house prices.

We thought Bush was responsible for all of that?   Except the housing price thing.  A lot Texas Oilies are bummed about the  effect of oil discovery on housing.

You say negotiation; I say capitulation

I’ve said it before. The Taliban will know better next time they get into a negotiation with the Obama administration. And so will every other terrorist group or nation hostile to American interests.

The Wall Street Journal has a lengthy “news” article today describing alternatives considered regarding the swap for Pvt/Sgt Bergdahl. They ranged from paying a ransom to freeing Bergdahl in return for less dangerous persons than the five Taliban detainees who were exchanged.

All were rejected because the State Dept., according to the Journal, “didn’t view them as ‘realistic’. In addition the Obama administration disputes the charge that the  one year, “supervised residency”, (that they had so shrewdly negotiated) could pose a threat to the US.

What is not said, however, is the more likely: the Obama people apparently believed that the Bergdahl’ captors were not going to budge from their initial demands. Also, unreported but likely, is that early on the Taliban suspected that Obama would pay any price, literally, to get Bergdahl back. They probably were not totally convinced of that, not knowing just how weak charactered, unbelievably self-serving our president is. They probably thought they had an extremely favorable deal if they got back their “fabulous five” terrorists and decided they didn’t want to push it. (They may have also wondered why the US wanted Bergdahl back that badly.)

But, now they know. When Obama thinks there is a political advantage, he’ll accede to anybody’s demands in return, irrespective of the interests of America and its people.

My guess is that the Taliban today are pondering just how much more they could have gotten from the Bergdahl negotiations…and so should every one of us.

Here is an interesting comment. Recall that in Bill O’Reilly’s interview with Obama, the IRS matter was raised. At the time, the FBI was supposedly “investigating”  to determine if there had been any criminal wrongdoing involved. In response to O’Reilly’s questioning, Obama assured the nation that there was “not a smidgeon of corruption” associated with the targetting of conservative groups, thus also assuring the FBI that he had made the determination in the case.

Now, here was the administration’s response (from a Fox News report), as delivered by Jay Carney, to reporters’ questions regarding the DOJ subpoenas for the AP, “What was the President’s reaction? Does he believe it was overreach?”

Carney: “All I can tell you is that I cannot and he cannot comment specifically on an ongoing criminal investigation or actions that investigators may or may not have taken. It would be wholly inappropriate.”

Carney should have added, “…unless the president sees some political advantage to commenting, such as perhaps shutting down an investigation which could result in embarrassment or even evidence of criminal wrongdoing by the administration”.
