Corn Belt Apostasy at the Argus-Dispatch?

The secret, dirty cost of Obama’s green power push*

Catch the title of this lengthy AP story that we noticed earlier today in qconline – the online news outlet operated by the Midwest oriented Small Newspaper Group,  a privately held company which owns the Moline Dispatch Publishing Company, publisher of the Rock Island Argus and Moline Dispatch print newspapers. Think the same state as the home of   John Deere, Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) and more corn land under production than you can shake a stick at.

It is an AP article which did not appear in yesterday’s or today’s print editions.  It is a far more lengthy article then we would expect to see in a print paper so we do not expect to see it tomorrow either. Nevertheless because it challenges the bread and butter of Big Ag  – Big Farm — Big Manufacturing — Big Midwest politics and a certain heretofore Big Green environmentalist movement orthodoxy  — we were astounded to see it picked up by the local outlet.

By our reading the article serves to challenge  the assumptions of the left – that the Obamacrats in their support of Big Ethanol are in anyway pure or authentically environmentalist or (pro-people).  Its focus is the harmful environmental impact on several environmentalist sacred cows. Of course political conservatives have tried to point those out for a long time along with the phoniness of the economics behind ethanol.  It is dependent on mandates and protections and subsidies for it s “profitability.”

The article is not totally objective, in that it continues to repeat as irrefutable much propaganda about CO-2 and other environmentalist orthodoxies. But coming from  the AP,  it will be a useful challenge to the unholy special government protections,  the regulatory exemptions  and mandates given to benefit the use of prime agricultural land for corn ethanol production for motor fuel.   The left may be beginning to see the environmental detriment of Big Ethanol and perhaps the suggestion of its adverse affect on food prices.      R Mall
